Chapter 1: Nostalgia… Chick?
In these days the Website was searching for a female counterpart of the Nostalgia Critic, named “Nostalgia Chick”. From 2008 to 2014, while also studying for her MFA, Lindsay Ellis was selected to host The Nostalgia Chick as part of the Channel Awesome production company. She went on to create over 100 videos as part of the series before leaving in 2014. In this time there were quite some developments.
Axiom’s End is a 2020 science fiction novel by American writer Lindsay Ellis. Set in 2007, the novel is about a U.S. government coverup of contact with extraterrestrial life. It’s part one of a trilogy called “Noumena”.
Atop the Fourth Wall (AT4W for short) is a comic book review show on the site, hosted by Minnesota native Lewis “Linkara” Lovhaug. His nickname came from a character he created when he was a teen, writing amateur fantasy novels. His show is one of the tamer in tone, as Lovhaug has one of the more wholesome and light-hearted personalities.
Being one of the bigger patrons of sci-fi and fantasy shows and movies, such as Doctor Who, Star Trek, Babylon 5, etc., he is one of the strongest users of a story-line, which he features in the same videos as his reviews, where he is an important and high-ranking agent against paranormal and extraterrestrial threats. He is also a major fan of Power Rangers and Pokémon, and once featured the glitch MissingNo. as a villain on his show. He also hosts a separate show where he discusses the history of Power Rangers.1

In October 2006, YouTube was bought by Google for $1.65 billion. Google’s ownership of YouTube has also changed its business model; it no longer generates revenue from advertisements alone, YouTube now offers paid content such as movies and exclusive content produced by YouTube. It also offers a paid subscription option for watching content without ads, YouTube Premium. YouTube and approved creators participate in Google’s AdSense program, which seeks to generate more revenue for both parties. YouTube’s reported revenue for 2020 was $19.8 billion.
Since its purchase by Google, YouTube has expanded beyond the core website into mobile apps, network television, and the ability to link with other platforms. Video categories on YouTube include music videos, video clips, news, short films, feature films, documentaries, audio recordings, movie trailers, teasers, live streams, vlogs, and more. Most content is generated by individuals. This includes collaborations between YouTubers and corporate sponsors. Established media corporations such as Disney, Paramount, and WarnerMedia have also created and expanded their corporate YouTube channels to advertise to a larger audience.
On YouTube and its competitors a new culture of film making grew. And this is where the next chapter of the story begins.
The Angry Video Game Nerd and Cinemassacre
The Angry Video Game Nerd (abbreviated as AVGN) is an American retrogaming review comedy web series created by and starring James Rolfe. The series centers on Rolfe’s titular skit character, often simply shortened to “the Nerd”, a short-tempered and foul-mouthed gamer who delivers commentary on retro games of poor quality.
