In 1978 RoboCop hit the big screen. Written by Ed Neuemier and Michael Miner, many assumed it would be a piece of schlock. However under the direction of Paul Verhoeven, RoboCop became a surprise hit and recieved critical acclaim. In 1990 Paul Verhoeven would make another forway into the sci-fi genre with the Philip K Dick adaptation Total Recall, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Superman Retrospective, Part 2: After an arduous and expensive production, Superman The Movie won widespread critical acclaim and became a box office smash. Its influence would be felt across the cinematic landscape for decades. However, as director Richard Donner and the cast prepared to resume filming on Superman II it wasn’t long before they ran into trouble… The chapters:

The 1980s was a great decade for science fiction. After the cancellation of The Original Series, Star Trek was briefly brought back in animated form with Star Trek The Animated Series. How does it stack up?
In my previous video about Dune, I outlined how this newest adaptation managed to succeed with critics, audiences and importantly at the box office where the previous versions didn’t. In this video, I’m getting stuck more into the actual movie and exploring how the creative decisions by the filmmakers resulted in the best Dune adaptation fans could have asked for.
The newest adaptation of Dune, directed by Denis Villeneuve has finally hit cinemas – and HBO Max, but you should probably see it on the big screen – and against all the odds it has been a huge success, with Dune Part Two recently being green lit. While I will be releasing my thoughts on the movie – basically my review – later on, for this video I wanted to examine the marketing, box office trends and other factors which contributed to Dune becoming a hit when it seemed like such a difficult thing to pull off. After all if Dune can do it, maybe some other supposedly “unfilmable” projects can do it too.
