Whoa, what is this? Long time no see here… It’s the Return of the Nerd, so to speak. In this episode, The Nerd has his final confrontation with the NES game that has tortured him his entire life: Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde!! And he’ll need some help from a wiser, more Fatherly Nerd to exorcise it once and for all!
History time: When the Angry Video Game Nerd was all the rage, there was of course many other people wanting to be just like them, and it includes these crazy individuals.
Alliances were formed. Bubbles have formed. But are the sides of the reviewers irreconcilable? When the Nostalgia Critic wants to celebrate the anniversary of his website “TGWTG” this morning, he has no idea that he will soon be involved in a fight of epic proportions….
Times change. I can feel it in the wind. I can feel it in the water. I feel it… The nerds will rise. And I have a feeling that this one will be one of the ones that will lead the way. He walks so others can run. After all, he’s just a nerd. No, an angry nerd. An angry video game nerd. He wants to let his anger out. The Angry Video Game Nerd (AVGN) is entering the land of the dead… the brain dead.

In this case, his anger is about the game Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest. Released on the Nintendo Entertainment System just a year after the first in the series, Castlevania II should have been equally as acclaimed. Though as it’s the focus of an AVGN video, there are of course numerous shortcomings which prevent Simon’s Quest from hitting the same highs as the original Castlevania. With horrendous day to night transitions, having to throw holy water everywhere you go, and possibly the easiest boss in video game history; Simon’s Quest was the perfect place for The Nerd to start dissecting the crappiest games known to man.

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde was a game released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1989. It was developed by Advance Communication Company and published by Toho & Bandai (who also put out the Godzilla toys). It is slow moving side-scroller, with notoriously bad controls and confusing gameplay. During gameplay, you alternate between Hyde or Jekyll where you will either try to avoid taking damage or kill monsters. Dr. Jekyll is supposed to be on his way to a wedding, but on the way he’s getting annoyed by people bothering him on his walk, which causes him to turn into Hyde. AVGN is on it again…
